Capturing the Aura is a compilation of contemporary knowledge concerning the elusive human aura and developing the ability to see it and understand it. Bringing together the thoughts of scientists, inventors, scholars, healers, and lay people, the aura is explored from many perspectives, through physics and high-tech electrophotography, to simple exercises to develop your own perceptive skills. Contributing authors include Fritjof Capra, Ph.D., Buryl Payne, Ph.D., Ralph Losey, and Gerald Owen Grow, Ph.D.

STRENGTHENING THE CHAKRAS THROUGH HERBAL THERAPY
C. E. Lindgren, DLitt Master Herbologist

Chakras, being the awareness organs of the etheral body, are usually strengthened and cleansed through the use of a regimen of psychic healings, proper breathing, occasional fasting, correct diet, proper rest and sleep (6-8 hours), prayer, and meditation. Other areas of emphasis are a true Rosicrucian lifestyle based on honesty, selfless service, and integrity, listening to Chakra Tones, and drinking quartz crystal or magnetized water (bottled or spring).

It is seldom, however, that one thinks of these swirling energy centers as being renewed through the use of herbal preparations. For millennia, however, Ayurveda medicine has utilized certain preparations applied to the chakra regions to stimulate, or taken internally to energize, these light vortexes.

The Seven Chakras

Root Chakra (also known as base or first chakra)
Element: Earth
Traditional Color: Red
Sanskrit: Muladhara
Musical Note: C
Location: The base of the spine (coccyx)
Essencial Oils: Black pepper, frankincense, and vetiver
Enhancement Herbs: Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha (Withenia somnifera): Ashwagandha provides the body with a calming effect. The herb helps circulation and aids in the healing of broken bones. The term Ashwagandha literally means "to impart the strength of the horse." "It helps to nourish and strengthen the inner reserves of the human body" (Ayusherbs 1996).

Note: Herbs, although generally safe, can be dangerous in large amounts. As noted, some of the herbs mentioned are to be taken internally while other are used externally as compresses. For this reason, this chapter is only to be used as an example of the relationship between specific herbs and various chakras or energy centers. Before taking any herb, check with a herbologist for directions.
